What is Advanced Metering Infrastructure?
Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) is a system of smart meters, communication networks, and data management systems that enables two-way communication between utilities and customers. It allows for remote meter reading, real-time energy monitoring, outage detection, and demand-side management, forming the foundation of a modern smart grid.
The GAIAS AMI System
1. Smart Meters
Deployed at customer sites to measure energy consumption in real-time. GAIAS provides meters with various communication options like PLC, LTE, and WiFi.
2. Data Concentrator Unit (DCU)
Collects data from multiple smart meters via PLC and securely transmits it to the central server using mobile communication networks.
3. Head-End System (HES)
The central "ENERTRAK" software platform that manages data collection, storage, analysis, and provides a web-based interface for the utility.
